Selling my house / downsizing with ADHD

I split from my boyfriend earlier this year, and due to the array of bin fires the last several years have brought to the cost of living, I’m having to sell my house as I can’t afford it on my own.

I live in a 4 bedroom semi, I’m heartbroken to be leaving as I really do love it here, but I’ve got my head around it now and I’m ready to downsize.

But, having had all this space and being your typical ADHD impulse purchaser, I’ve got a LOT of stuff. I’m happy to let go of it, I just can’t quite compute how this is going to work. I have bags upon bags of clothes to sell on Vinted, but I get overwhelmed by the idea of it. Most of it can go to charity shops, but the more expensive stuff I do want to sell to help with the cost of moving.

And then there’s the hobby graveyard, and the boxes of “misc” which can be anything from blankets to handbags to old cameras. I just don’t even know how to begin. I can sort it all into keep, donate, sell and bin, but actually following through on donate and sell is where I’ll fall down.

I’ve accepted an offer on my house so I do need to get started. The likelihood is that I may end up putting my stuff into storage and staying with family until I find a place I like, so I’ll be getting rid of a lot of furniture as well as items, and only keeping what I really love.

I get feelings of intense guilt and shame around seeing all these things I never did anything with, and also around improperly disposing of or “wasting” things. Part of me just wants to hire a skip and throw everything in it. I really have no idea how to tackle this. Would love to know whether anyone has dealt with a similar situation, and what you did?

Also, any house selling tips in general are so appreciated. I was awful with the admin when I bought this place, it’s so stressful!
