BENGE

I said it two weeks ago, Benge is going to lead the new “Baby Mets”. THIS is going to be the guy for years to come. Too early to get a jersey???

It’s OKAY to criticize this team.

I think being OVERLY positive about this team is equally as bad as the fans who actually want to see the team do bad so they can say “I told you so”. It’s not like the guys taking at bats and pitching in these high leverage situations are not either veterans who are making a boatload of money to NOT do their jobs at this (Yes, you can say they’re not doing their jobs). They’re also 24-26 years olds who were highly touted prospects who can’t seem to put it together for more than 10 games at a time. To top it off it doesn’t help that our manager continuously gets burned trying to show confidence in these guys who consistently show they can not get the job done in these high leverage situation.

I do want to say I’m not ready to write these guys off and I still believe we can compete for a wildcard spot come September but a team with a $340 million dollar payroll should not be fielding a lineup like it did today even with as many injuries as we do nor should we be burning 6 relievers in a 10-5 game like we did yesterday and throwing a washed up Craig Kimbrel because we don’t have anyone else. Mendoza is throwing away games we can’t afford. There’s no urgency. You’re allowed to be upset with the team and manager in games like this.

Over the last 2 series the bats are starting to wake up a little bit and our starting pitching has been STELLAR but the way games are being managed are biting us in the ass.

Mendoza has to go whether we make the playoffs or not.

His last two outings have been AWFUL, he’s pitching absolute lollipops AND he’s still got one more year after this year. He should seriously consider getting that loose bodies surgery and cut his losses this year. Atleast we could open up a roster spot.

Gotta love how the kid has picked it up over the last two weeks. Really excited to see how the year progresses for him. I know he’s not where he’s expected to be with the bat yet but the last ten games he’s batting .290 with a .785 OPS and he’s been SOLID at all 3 outfield positions.

If there’s one thing Mendoza has done right it’s been allowing Benge to take consistent at bats and playing time.
