SmartTrip card as a graduation gift
My nephew is graduating high school and will attend college in DC. As a graduation gift, I want to get him a maxed out ($300) SmartTrip card to help him get around the city without worrying about fares. He’s not from DC, and he’s so excited to explore the city for the next four years.
The WMATA site allows me to purchase only $10 and $30 cards. I don’t know anyone in DC that can get me a fully loaded card from a kiosk. This being the case, would I have to purchase a $10 SmartTrip card, mail it to myself, load money on the card (is this possible without registering the card to an account?), and finally mail the card to him? Is there a fully digital option so it doesn’t take me a full month to get this gift to him? If there is an easier way for me to get him a $300 SmartTrip card, please educate me!
In case it wasn’t clear, he and I live in different states, and I cannot attend his graduation.
