Hi everyone,
I’m considering doing the Camino in 2026 and I’m trying to figure out what’s actually realistic in terms of timing, preparation and daily pace.
My current idea would be:
- start around early September 2026
- begin from Le Puy-en-Velay (Via Podiensis)
- continue all the way to Santiago
- mostly a mix of bivouac/wild camping + occasional albergues/hostels
- carrying my own backpack
- aiming for roughly 2 months total if possible
About me:
- not an athlete, but reasonably fit / a bit sporty
- some hiking experience, but no ultra-long trek experience
- willing to train beforehand
I’d love feedback from people who’ve done something similar:
- Is ~2 months realistic from Le Puy?
- What was your average km/miles per day in reality (not on paper)?
- How many rest days did you actually take?
- Was September a good departure period?
- How hard was the transition into Spain / Camino Francés in late autumn?
- Did you regret bivouacking vs staying more often in albergues?
- What would you do differently if you did it again?
I’m especially interested in honest “real-world” experiences rather than ultra-optimized athletic timelines.
Thanks a lot 🙏
