Can you still recommend the Primitivo route between June and October? (Sleeping accommodations)

Hello, I had originally planned to walk the Primitivo in early June. However, I then looked at the pilgrim statistics for the route (the numbers are growing by 5-20% every year) and read through the firsthand accounts here in the forum, including stories about people having to take taxis to reach the nearest available accommodation. It would be fine with me to switch to a hotel every now and then, but is it the case that, at times, even *that* isn't possible anymore?

Could this situation be mitigated by starting in Oviedo on a Wednesday?

I have little desire for the constant uncertainty of whether I’ll even be able to find a place to sleep. I wouldn't sleep outdoors, given the likelihood of rain.

What do you think?

Thigh pain

Hey guys, after having walked from St Jean to Burgos relatively pain free, I stopped in Burgos for a rest day, feeling perfectly fine. Nothing out of the ordinary during the rest day, but today about 30minutes into the walk for the day my thigh began to ache like crazy and sharp pains started shooting up. I barely got to Tardajos and getting a taxi back to Burgos now, thanks to the lovely bartender here. Just wondering has anyone experienced something similar to this? It seems to bizarre to me since I was perfectly fine before. Sucks to have to take some time to rest but I have the time so I don't mind too much.

Airplane neck pillow

We are flying into Madrid and training to Leon to start our Camino. I have a neck pillow I like, it works well on the plane in Coach, and I’d hate to lose it. Any idea if I can do anything with it except pack it with me on the walk? We will be returning to MAD from Santiago to fly out from there. Thanks!

What’s the best time to do it?

Hi, I finally have time to take off. I’m thinking of starting in Porto. Im thinking of September, as I want to avoid the summer crowd. I’ve traveled solo before but I have never hiked by myself. I’m open with the open spaces but how much of this trip is in isolated spots. I don’t know if I want to do it in a travel group but would like to find a buddy if needed. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Camino for early-mid October!

Hi all!

they said Camino never ends, and here I am, nearly a year after walking the Camino Portugues central way, and planning the next one :)

last time I walked in June, with loads of sun and sometimes way too hot weather. Now I want a new route, but also due to work I will only be able to take 2 weeks off in early to mid October. I was thinking of doing one of the longer Caminos (Frances or Norte) over the course of multiple years maybe..

Which one would you recommend to do at that time of year? Any opinions welcome :)

Camimo Del Norte

Hello fellow pilgrims!
Last year in September, I walked the Camino del Norte and then switched over to the Primitivo.
I filmed some moments along the way, and now I want to share those memories with you.
I really wanted to capture not just the breathtaking views, but also the social aspect of the Camino. To me, the community and the people you meet are such a vital part of the journey, and that’s exactly what I wanted to show you in this video.

How early should I start my day

Hello all
Im starting the Portuguese Coastal Camino on July 1st starting in Porto. I’m reading a lot of posts here claiming there’s a lot of people specially on the last 100km.

I was planning on not booking rooms to get the full experience but now I’m concerned.

How early in the day do I need to start walking to guarantee a bed at a municipal albergue? I’m not a fast walker maybe 1h/10km.

Thank you and buen camino

Edit: sorry guys I mean 2h/10km of course 🤣 1h is my running pace

Any Spanish Learning resources (ideally analog) you all recommend?

I leave for my camino in a couple of weeks, and I don't know any Spanish. I want to start teaching myself and was curious what people would recommend? I don't want to be on my phone/apps, so I would like to have something more analog. Any introductory books that teach grammar and vocab? I also thought about buying some flash cards for the trip to teach myself while walking. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

first timer: coastal to central switch

hi!!! i'm a camino first timer and i'm thinking i want to go litoral to central to spiritual!

i've heard that litoral is the best out of porto because it's the least industrial, and i definitely want to spend some time along the ocean, but i also want to switch to the central route. most commonly i've seen people mention switching over at vila do conde (to rates via river or aqueduct) and caminha. i'd love to stay at casa de fernanda, which would mean switching at vdc, but i've heard some of the routes to rates are a little dangerous/confusing due to either cars or lack of signage. i was wondering if anyone had experiences/tips/opinions to share about either!

also, the camino apps i've seen don't let you plan for a route switch, so i was wondering if those who made the crossover used a different app or just "winged it" and followed the signs.

i would also totally appreciate any random tips or places you really loved staying at, eating at, or just walking through!!! if it factors in to your suggestions, im a 22 y/o woman who has some ankle/hip problems but is determined to stop letting them hold me back!

How busy is the Portuguese coastal route in late September/early October?

Hello!

I'm very excited to be doing the Portuguese coastal route this fall for my birthday. I'll be on the trail from Sept. 27 to Oct 10ish, starting in Porto.

Just curious how busy the trail usually is around this time of year, and whether I should be booking any albergues ahead of time. My plan is to ideally stay in the municipal albergues, but I can pivot to booking private ones if it will be hard to get a spot.

Thanks!

First timer Primitivo in August - minimal packing & booking advice

Hey everyone,

I'll be walking my first Camino this August and am feeling attracted to the Primitivo. I'm planning to go through it at a relaxed pace - anything from 12 to 16 days. I'm a mid 20s male and been doing sports all my life so I should be fine.

I'd like to figure out what is the absolute minimum I can get away with regarding packing.

Since this is August can I show up without some clothing items that people generally recommend to bring? What is an absolute necessity?

I'm already pretty decisive on not bringing a sleeping bag nor walking sticks.

After figuring out the bare minimum for clothing I'd also like to hear if there is anything else I absolutely must bring and what I can drop.

As a follow-up question - do you think I should be booking places in advance to sleep or if the primitivo is doable by just walk ins? If booking, how much in advance should I do that?

Thank you for any info you send my way!
