CCC Week 11, "Glorious Numbers"!

CCC Week 11, "Glorious Numbers"!

Welcome back to another week of the CCC, where this week, it's all about the stars of Zexal, the Number Monsters! Our contestants this week will be tasked to create an all-new Number, whether that be a Chaos Number for an already existing monster, a Number that hasn't been seen before, or even some new category like an Imaginary Number or a Negative Number!

The usual format applies here, title posts as "Weekly CCC (Glorious Numbers) - <Card Name> - <Full Username>", with the Competition Submission flair to be eligible for judging, posts are graded on a 10 point scale between 4 categories, Prompt, Flavor, PSCT, and Balance.

For this week I will allow adding multiple cards to the post, in case you design your Number to be part of a specific deck or with an alternate version. Only the Number Monster, which must be posted on the first slide, will be used for judging, the rest is just for a sense of context to some abilities, if necessary. For instance, my "C30: Acid Reign Golem" has the ability to detach a material from any "Acid" Xyz on the field, not just itself, which would need context of seeing other "Acid" monsters to see why that matters at all.

With that being said, you will have until noon EST on Monday, May 25 to submit your cards. The Number Monsters are some of my favorite cards just ever, with Zexal also being the first and most enjoyable of the shows I ever watched, so I'm especially excited to see just what you all can come up with!

Repost since I botched the title.

Decided to try and actually participate in someone else's prompt, been in a creative slump lately but this one was actually pretty interesting to work with despite how simple it is. Circulars are pretty prevalent designs in modern decks, even with some off versions than the basic "send to summon", one that comes to mind is Gimmick Puppet Little Soldiers, who sends a Gimmick Puppet from deck on summon to change it's level around, or that newly announced Speedroid card that I don't think we've seen properly revealed yet. Either way, I believe basically any deck could benefit from a circular except like, exactly Madolche or something else that specifically doesn't want cards in GY. Zombies sure as hell don't need another though. So anyways, here's "Maniac Brainiac"!

Maniac Brainiac is a basic circular for Zombie Pile, with the only difference being that you can't go ahead and send just anything that you want. The level restriction was to prevent simplifying the lines too much, one I could think of normally would be something like, normal any zombie, reveal Maniac, send Baledroch, summon Maniac, then Maniac tribute the targeted guy, search Zombie World, which is a floodgate and monster negate already set up, entirely disregarding any effects the normal summon could have on field or in GY, along with literally every other card in your hand. I see him having a home in more Synchro focused zombie decks maybe, an easy way to access monsters with different levels, and still searching zombie world, or if you have that already, something like Zombie Power Struggle or Zombie Necronize, for a battle trick going first or a steal going second. I'm sure it's not the most interesting idea ever, but I'm happy with my entry for this week, and can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with!

Ladies and gentlemen, here we are with the results for CCC Week 8, "Sublime Subtypes"! To give a refresher, our 16 contestants for this week were prompted to create a card that has 2 special subtypes, working the two of them in together efficiently and creatively. Our subtypes were Flip, Spirit, Gemini, Union, Toon, Tuner, and Pendulum, so for instance you could create a Spirit Tuner, or a Toon Union perhaps. Once all our entries were gathered up, I graded them on a simple 10 point scale across 4 categories: Prompt, Skill, Balance, and Style. 2 points for how well you followed the prompt, 2 for following PSCT, 3 for how balanced the card is, not too weak and not too strong, and finally 3 for how well you were able to work the essence and flavor into the card.

As usual, I'll be starting from the bottom when listing off our entries, so here in 6th place, with an unfortunate 3/10, is u/omegon_da_dalek13 with "Heiricane Tetra-Trap". There definitely needed to be some improvement on the PSCT, and in terms of the prompt they chose Flip and Union, there wasn't much of a flip effect and the closest they got to union was equipping to an opponent's monster when summoned. It does get points for fitting quite well into the ambush predator theming they came up with though, so I will say, they have promise, but just need to sharpen up on their skills a little.

Moving on we have one of our many 3 way ties for 5th place, all holding 6 points total. u/capio13 with "Illusionary Toon Rabbit", u/FatSlenderMan with "The Unstoppable Marching of Time", and u/Optimal_Product6387 with "Machina Combiner". All the cards here fell short in just a couple categories, all of them being a little on the weaker side and not very flavorful. Toon Rabbit giving a monster the toon direct attack effect but not treating the monster as a Toon, Marching of Time being a rather win more card, as if you can set up a protect the castle board for a level 1 0/0 vanilla that takes your normal summon, youre probably winning anyways, and Combiner just being an extra copy of your machina spells or an easy summon for a machine union from the deck.

In 4th place we have a 5 way tie with 7 points each, so I'll be speeding up a little bit so we're not here all day. u/aaa1e2r3 had "Un-Duet", u/MrGrummel had "Hayate-Tokage", u/Foustling_Magia had "Lady Eardrops Maiden", u/xoyovo had "Kanzaki Spellblade", and u/YourAverageMass had "Foldroid Amp-Class, Huelix". All rather interesting cards, a particularly good placement for balance, and no major losses to prompt or PSCT.

On the podium now, our 3rd place spot, with 8 points, is taken by just a single card, "Twin Soul Barbarian" by u/Icy_Camera8176. Full marks to prompt and skill, only taking a single loss each to flavor and balance, as despite a rather powerful pendulum effect to make any gemini you pendulum summon immediately gain it's effects, the card itself doesn't do much else.

Taking the silver in 2nd place is another 3 way tie, with u/Fuerst_Nekron and "Chemicritter Nickel Naga", u/Tall-Bag-9317 and "Takenoko Kaguyahime", and u/Dogga565 with "Penguin Vanguard". Wonderful work as usual from our always returning contestants, but they couldn't take it all this time around.

1st place for this week is our last 3 way tie, 10 points all around to our contestants here. "Blossoming Zombie" by u/Agosto_Azul, "Magikey Summoner" by u/antandmantis, and "The Cartoonist" by u/Neo_DexM. Blossoming Zombie was a Gemini Tuner, designed to allow easier access to the Plaguespreader Synchros, as well as providing an extra manner to send a Zombie from the Deck to your GY. Magikey Summoner was another Gemini Tuner, this time providing an easy outlet to any type of Special Summon the deck uses, as well as counting as a Normal Monster on the field or in the GY for those effects. Finally, The Cartoonist is Toon Tuner, providing easy access to Toon World, and sending a Toon from your Deck to the GY to access most Synchro Monsters as a level 4 Tuner, treating them as Toons when summoned for proper synergy.

Absolutely amazing work from every one of our contestants this past week, and a huge thank you to everyone that's been supporting the CCC so far! I've noticed some interest in other people hosting some weeks, so I'll try and say some things here about it. As a disclaimer, I'm just one of the people that mainly hosts it, so if I'm wrong about anything, I'll let u/MrGrummel or especially u/Dogga565 fill in anything like that, since Dogga is a mod that frequently pins the weekly competition to the sub and was the one to originally revive the CCC. Now then, on the topic of who else could host, I believe that anyone should be able to if they want it, the general consensus as to when you post it seems to be before noon on Mondays, EST. Everyone seems to grade somewhat differently, and prompts can naturally be anything you want. I'd highly encourage taking the reins for a week if you're interested, although it can definitely be a lot to handle if you're not prepared. Still, it's an incredible way to get involved with the community, and I personally just love seeing how creative people get with the prompts. Thanks again to everyone who participated in this week's contest, and be sure to check out week 9's Equip Spell Support contest before it ends!
