Just picked up a Real Simons jacket for ~¥38000 (~$240) and wanted to share my impressions!

Materials: it’s good stuff! Better than any other new jacket you’ll find at this price range, anyway. Yeah, it’s no shinki, and it certainly is not as thick or satisfying to the touch as my JP Horsehide perfecto, but those jackets are around $2K and this softer horsehide honestly comes pretty darn close in how I like it. Underlying brown of the teacore is a very nice color too. Oddly enough, the white portions are a bit firmer than the black ones. The hardware is actually quite solid too, with sturdy and satisfying zips and snaps, though they definitely don’t feel as heavy duty as my Schott’s. Quilted lining is warm, doesn’t feel fragile or like it would tear easy. Leather smell is a little overplayed in other reviews — it’s nice, but it’s nowhere near as noticeable as Shinki. It is still nice, though, and not chemical at all.

Construction: no complaints. Actually, I couldn’t find a single flaw in the stitching or anything else, and I think it’s pretty easy to find at least a minor imperfection or two in even Real McCoys’ stuff.

Fit: the part that surprised me the most. I had heard this was a sore point for many customers, with many Americans having to go up a size or even two. I checked the measurements though, and decided to stick with my usual. Now, I am ethnically Asian, but I’m a little taller and have broader shoulders than the average Asian guy, so I thought it might be a tight squeeze, but it honestly fits so well it feels like it was made for me and me specifically. I’ve also had an issue with a lot of Japanese repo brands and Schott where the jacket feels just a touch longer than I want it to be, or the chest is just a bit roomier than I want it, etc., but this is the perfect length for me.

Closing thoughts/TLDR: As of right now, I think this was a great purchase well worth the money spent. It hits well above its weight class, and is a real looker. Check measurements to see what size you should get rather than relying on any rule of thumb or guide. Very happy with it.
