No idea what to do?

Hi All!

I've paid a small fortune to keep 2018 Subaru Forester 2•5Ltr Petrol going. After installing new aftermarket Air-conditioning,all the hoses & Compressor it was noted that the transmission was noisy. Also that the Radiator was turning green on top. Usually at 10 years and 155,000 Kms. Mine was all that plus the was a funny noise like a Wheel bearing or the transmission/gearbox. They installed the radiator with various other component's. I reminded the mechanic that I'd mentioned to the office girl the noise. There was no mention until a diagnostic run to Eliminate other possibilites causing the noise. Until the finding was the lumpy sounds of the rear of transmission / gear box. We have a choice or repair or replace the gearbox at $3,750•00 . Why wasn't the noise addressed first. Asking a desk girl to write down my questions seemed useless at the time. She didn't put it on the list. So they replaced the lesser item. When I asked about the noise he played dumb and said "Theres no mention" that was made, although they raised the noisy transmission 6mths previously. So we've invested in air, brakes, new pad front n back disc machining, new radiator. New r/Hand seat belt $550... NOW given the option of buying a 2nd hand gearbox with 70,000kms or more on it's life plus fitting for $3750 plus various extras with about $1200...What do I do?

Were these Gearbox's designed to never be repaired & were just to be replaced. I'm at my wits end as this morning, my Wife unthinkingly paid off the remaining debt instead of continuing on monthly plan for the next 15 months. Paid $7371.71

It's ours...but as a model to strip and keep where...? My brain just won't clear of the mind fog. Does anyone have a lucid clue of advice?Sincerely, Michael. I just can't think of what to do next...perhaps getting a second opinion, but risking driving and knowingly driving a disintegrating gearbox, to where? To whom? Any suggestions? Michael from Waverley. 2024 NSW.
