Hi all,
I'm a PhD student here on a student visa for a 3-year program, of which I have completed two. Unfortunately, I have an unexpected mental health issue and am considering taking a term off. However, I would prefer to stay in the UK. The university page says that I might be able to stay as a PhD student taking one term off, without specifying on what conditions; and it says nothing about my dependent.
I want to stay because a. my husband works here, b. my dog is here, and it's very expensive to take dogs in and out, and c. the process of moving would be a huge ordeal and would cancel the benefit of taking a term off. I also rent a flat privately and wouldn't want to move out and then search for another place. We plan on moving back home after I finish the course, so that would mean relocating twice in the span of a year.
Does anyone know what the procedure usually is? How common is it to allow people to stay and for their dependents to continue working? Would I be allowed to get a part-time job, as suspending would mean I wouldn't get my scholarship stipend?
Thank you!
Do you ever feel like a patient is overreacting to small problems, does not need therapy, and should simply get over themselves? Do you ever find yourself comparing a patient's problems to other patients' or to your own, thinking that they are making a big deal over nothing? If so, would you tell them?
I watched the Netflix documentary The Dinosaurs and really enjoyed it. I am a bit confused about one thing: it depicted the global earthquakes, tsunamis, sediment, etc as spreading instantly, with sediment and fires appearing globally within a single day. While it makes sense to think that the initial catastrophe happened very fast, I am used to thinking about ancient processes as much slower.
Obviously, the dinosaurs didn't go extinct immediately all over the world; I understand it did cause much slower processes, such as a drop in temperature, which eventually killed all non-avian dinos. But as for the direct impact itself, did it really kill everything around the crater in a matter of seconds? How far and how fast did it spread? Do we know?
