Allergies and mood cycling
Hey all,
Just curious if anybody else goes through depressive or mixed episodes when their allergies act up. I'm crazy allergic to dogs and spent 8hrs with my parents dogs on Sunday and am still paying for it.
There is research connecting histamine and depression symptoms because histamine is a neuraltransmitter as well as a reactionary measure from your immune system that can cause inflammation.
What I think is happening to me personally is that my allergies get bad, my nervous system becomes inflammed, my dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine get messed up, and then my mood spirals because chaos and stress and bipolar 2 is not great.
Antihistamines are also a mixed bag for me. Benadryl makes my depression worse and Claritin makes cycling worse. Zyrtec seems to be okay so far.
Have to love how asymptomatic any individual can be in the face of a wide spread illness. Treatment really feels like playing whack-a-mole sometimes.
