LCBO asked me for a $10 donation

A relative I don’t see often invited me to a Canada Day barbecue at their place tomorrow. So today I went to the LCBO to buy them a bottle of wine. (I don’t drink, but I want to be polite and give them something when I come over.)

At the checkout, the cashier asked if I would like to make a donation to some charity, and asked “Maybe 5 or 10 dollars?”

I said no thanks, but I was thinking: “10 dollars?! That’s more than the wine I was purchasing. Do you think I’d be purchasing one of the cheapest wines in the store if I could afford to donate $10 every time I go shopping?”

Is this normal now? Am I just turning into my dad, complaining about how expensive everything is?

I just paid $14 for a stick of deodorant.

If this continues, I’m going to stop wearing deodorant.

Edit: Sorry for participating in capitalism and not making my own deodorant. I clearly suck.
