AITA for not explicitly stating that what's in the laundry basket IS laundry?

So my mother is very sick in hospital and me (17F) and my stepfather (67-ishM) are left to our devices. On Monday he came into my room and asked if I had any laundry. I looked around, handed him two t-shirts and we both went on our way. However, today I see that the laundry is hanging outside with only my two t-shirts in the load. So basically, he left the laundry basket in the bathroom (we use separate bathrooms) completely untouched. I asked why he didn't wash my laundry and he insisted that he asked me forr my laundry and the laundry basket, which is the obvious place for laundry, should have also been pointed out to him, therefore he did no wrong, and I'm whiny and should do my own laundry if I need to. Literally no one in this household (since we moved together) thought that the laundry basket doesn't in fact contain the laundry that should be washed, and I know he's also as new to housework as me, but he just walked past the laundry basket after I've been here for 4 days and thought hmm there's nothing in there for sure?Like it has one purpose and it's STORING THE LAUNDRY SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO COME INTO MY ROOM AND ASK FOR IT. I'M also concerned that this will escalate and I will be asked to leave, because I pointed it out to him and he got offended. So tell me, who was in the right, and whose job was to take care of the laundry in the basket?
