Hey everyone,

I’ve been really trying to improve my mixing and move away from just basic transitions into more layered, hypnotic blends, kind of in the style of Fumi.

I’m struggling with two main things:

  1. Looping & layering

- How do you choose the right sections to loop without it sounding repetitive or messy?

- When you’re layering a new track, how do you decide what to bring in first (highs, mids, etc.)?

- How do you keep loops interesting over time instead of them feeling static?

- Any tips for making two tracks feel “woven together” instead of just playing on top of each other?

  1. Phrasing (biggest issue)

- How do you consistently get phrasing right without constantly counting bars?

- Are there specific cues you listen for to know when a new phrase starts?

- Any drills or habits that helped you internalize phring so it becomes automatic?

I feel like when I get it right, it sounds amazing—but most of the time I’m slightly off and it ruins the blend.

Would love to hear how more experienced DJs approach this.

Thanks 🙏
