My program is set to make a backup every 15 minutes, but I just accidentally closed a file without saving and the recovery backup folder is empty. The initial backup folder has a version from more than an hour ago that is from before my last save, but there's nothing from between then and now.

What happened and how can I stop this from happening again? I just lost a lot of work that I was very happy with and it's very frustrating since I thought I had a safeguard against this
