Theory: The Death Chamber used to be an execution room
When I was listening to the recent SCB episode discussing the Death Chamber description (the room in the Department of Mysteries containing the Death Arch), I noticed their parallel between this room and the execution room in Fantastic Beast.
It dawned on me that the Death Room must have been, at some point in the past of the british Wizarding World, a place where death penalty was applied.
They just had to make the condemned people walk through the Veil to execute them. This would also explained the stone stands all around the arch.
