Reminder about small screen pixel pitch and resolution.
I have talked to a few people lately who say they must game in 4k. It helps to understand pixels per inch. Pixel pitch and density is another thing to learn but gets slightly more complicated.
Here is a summary though of ppi for different sizes and resolutions.
8" screen
720p 183 pixels per inch
800p 189 ppi
1080p 275 ppi
1200p 283 ppi
1440p 367 ppi
2160p (4k) 550 ppi
27" screen
720p 54.5 ppi
800p 56 ppi
1080p 82 ppi
1440p 109 ppi
2160p (4k) 163 ppi
32" screen
1080p 70 ppi
1440p 93 ppi
2160p (4k)138 ppi
I think sensitivity to pixel resolution is subjective but can be very psychological. But I do think people tend to forget that small handheld screens work because they can use lower resolutions and look as good as higher resolutions on bigger screens. The higher resolution screen is a luxury but not a necessity for 10" or smaller.
