Big Tech > Rad Tech

Hello!

Has anyone else in tech (think FAANG and adjacent) previously that has made the switch? I've got almost a decade of experience but just cannot take it anymore. I don't even want to be in this industry AT ALL since having a baby (2 years ago).

People think I'm crazy for leaving a remote, flexible and generously paid role but I feel so cynical everyday. Scoffing at stupid KPIs and forecasts calling for 50% YoY growth when the economy is shit. I want to do something tangible!!

Im just looking for people in a similar situation that did make the switch, how it's going, any regrets? If I take the time for school and decide to go back to tech, my experience will be obsolete. But like I said, I can't do this soul sucking career anymore regardless of money...

Career Change - to Medical Field Advice

Anyone thought about or have gone through a career change in their 30s? I've been in tech/e-commerce for nearly a decade now. Successful career so far but over the constant grind, bringing stress home (it never really leaves since I'm WFH) and over all just had it; doesn't feel sustainable and I no longer crave upward mobility

Looking for moms that are in:
Dental Hygiene
Diagnostic Ultrasound
Radiology

Highly considering the switch and some of my bachelors will cover pre reqs.

Looking for opinions: how do you like your job? Do you feel stressed all the time? Pros / cons?

Thanks!

First off, thank you to this community. It's helped me feel prepared and not so alone!

One thing I haven't seen talked about is juggling being a mom, working a high stress FT tech job, feeling like a burden...would love to know if other moms with small children / toddlers are going through the same thing. I have a very supportive and helpful partner but cannot shake the guilt I feel. I'm also just sad I can't be active with my baby even though I know this is temporary...doesn't negate that it's hard right now. Help :(

Injury: Jan 2026 in a deep squat with heavy loaded weight. Had subsequent episodes after that until I started Pre Hab in early March.

Pre Hab: At first, my PCP said absolutely no movement outside of causal walking. Baseline: I run 15-20 miles/week and lift (mainly barbell / compound) 5x/week. This was TOUGH. Then I saw my PT and surgeon who gave me the confidence to use pain as my guide. Since then, been putting in extremely hard work (safely) and felt very strong going into surgery. I can jog, lift, bend with no pain or more episodes since starting PT; avoiding heavy squats and deep flexion pretty much.

Procedure: Fully torn ACL reconstructed with allograft + bucket handle meniscus tear; 9 total sutures. Surgeon told me I can probably bear weight in 2 weeks but we will see how things go! I woke up really alert and not groggy...is this adrenaline? I'm having a hard time sleeping...in fact, I feel like I have so much energy as if I got a really good nights sleep lol.

Now: as it's only day 0, pain is manageable, able to use crutches pretty well and my doc gave me the okay to go up the stairs (I butt scooted) because I have a very active toddler who mainly plays on the first floor and no relaxing would be done there.

Prep items: ice machine** **(not pictured, husband is refilling it), wedge pillow, bedside hospital table (CLUTCH), mini fridge, shower stool etc. anything else kind of niche you'd suggest?

Edited only for spelling! I was still coming to after surgery apparently lol
