Made a quick cabin for Galen and John

Since I've now got John Doe at camp I needed to give him somewhere to sleep so I decided to move Galen out of the manor and give him and John a cabin using an area behind the manor that was empty.

Really wish we had 45 degree reed roofs, but since 64s are the only "tall" option I based this off of some gothic design. I probably spent more time on the exterior than I wanted, but some of that detailing was just obvious to envision so I did it. I would also like some roof pieces that are half as tall, always end up with that cross section at the top of the narrow windows when you pop them up out of the roof. I don't mind the look of it myself, but it's not "correct" for a gothic cabin.

There was room to add a small upstairs floor but I didn't see the need given the purpose of the cabin.

Huntsman's Lodge

Happy 4th of July weekend!

So for Biome 2 I wanted to build a base in the Foothills setting. One of my islands had this huge rock right near the coast and I had the idea of digging out around the rock and then digging a path back to the coast, using the dugout region to build my base.

I ran walling all around the inside as straight as I could to make it fit tight and then in some places I ran a false wall to straighten out the inside just a bit since there were not going to be many windows used by design.

After that, I laid down pillars to figure out where the "squarest" parts of the compound were and ultimately came up with 4 large rooms that I used to build my roofs off of.

I wanted to replace the vegetation around the fence so I spent a small portion of each session farming shrub and ficus seeds. This led to a lot of inventory space so I made a stupidly intricate path from the Travel Bell/Merchant building to the entrance using the wood. The plant fiber went into making a walled off path to an Iron mine on another island. If I ever need wood again I can come back and break down this monstrosity, plus I have about 15 ficus trees to harvest, so there's that.

The north side of the base catches sun from noon to sunset so I cleared out an area above the entrance path and built a stepped garden so I would have plenty of flax for linen cloth production as well as limes and peppers to keep Spicy Chicken and Seafood Platters stocked. I also used the area up there for the materials stations and added a small watering fountain.

It's a hunting lodge so of course I had to display a bunch of trophies. I actually stopped putting them up towards the end because it was just looking ridiculous. I also added a watch tower and a cozy "fireplace" in it, we're on a hunting vacation after all! Anyway, cheers!

From the window, to the wall!

I didn't wall off the bottom because changing these out was time-consuming enough without fighting more snapping points, but I think I've gotten the idea across in these pictures.

Finally obtained all of the Reed roof pieces

I included a shot of the roof before the upgrade, though it's not the greatest. Originally it was a 45 at the top and then 2 rows of 26. Now it's a 64 at the top with an additional row of 26 at the bottom which unfortunately took up some of the view from the deck but I'm pleased with the look for now. Pediments are just 64 degree weathered pillars built off a roof ridge on each side.

Boat House for my Dinghy

The build itself was fairly simple, a few walls and a lot of pillar work. Getting the foundation lined up underneath the floor so that it wouldn't clip into the floor took a bit, I included a screenshot of the gap I made. Cheers!

Upgraded my "starter island" base to a Biome 1 keep

Included a shot of the base when I decided to leave my starter island for reference for anyone who did not see the post a few days ago.

Still trying to keep it as small and tight as possible while also making room for future stations and upgrades like the balcony that will be used for seedbeds later. I had to place the bonfire in the corner upstairs to get Galen to use his bed but both bedrooms upstairs look the same, quaint but comfortable.

I haven't farmed every design available from the reputation vendors but I did take on every naval combat that got in my way or thought to mess with me just so I could get as many designs after getting the vendors and workers.

Made a new character and tried to progress as far as I could on the starter island

I wanted to keep the build as minimalist as possible, workstations and such on the ground floor, living space above it. The foundation came out to 16x10. I decided to leave the top as an open roof to give more space to the build. Working with just the beginning pieces was really fun when trying to build as nice a base as possible.

Took a long time to get the Boar's Head for the second trophy. I didn't have any spawns of the alchemy thistles but otherwise this island had everything else I could think of to start out with.

Yeah, I'm not completing that

So if you plant a vertical pillar down and then run two lengths of 26 degree pillars out in every direction from that vertical pillar...and then branch off of those initial legs at a 15 degree rotation to the left and right another two lengths of 26 degree pillars you will have all the "paths" laid out. You just run out each path 2 pillars in the left or right direction you already started the "path", rotate 15 degrees, 2 pillars, rotate 15 degrees, etc. all of the paths will eventually spiral back and meet in the middle to form this teardrop shape. I decided to see what a roof would look like on it and figure out how many levels you could get inside if each level was 5 units high (3 and the first floor is small). Last shot I did the same thing, but only ran the paths out 1 pillar length before rotating.

Step by step easy fountain modification

Just a quick step-by-step of some fountains I was building in my tavern. Certainly not saying this is the best modification for the fountain, it's just easy to replicate imo and maybe some beginner builders could find the step-by-step useful. Everything snaps into place. May have to play around a bit positioning the first pillar where wanted. I usually just snap a small wall unit and then put down another pillar if I would like to start a bit to the left or further back for example. I found getting the fountain to sit properly I had to force it down a few times, you could delete the corner railings and set it in, just be mindful when putting the railings back that the fountain isn't clipping them in a way you don't agree with. Due to the 20 photo limit, not every step is here because we're just going to put another triangle on the other side for example. I hopefully put in the most relevant shots.

Travel Bell and Wharf

Really wanted to use those roof corners on something so this is how it came out in the end.

Bath house

This was one of the first features I made at the keep. That spot between the rocks just looked perfect for it. Later on I went back and built a Pergola? and added some vegetation around the rock island between the path

Fishing Pool and Galen's House

When I had found the location I wanted to build my keep, there was a small pool kind of in the middle of where I envisioned it all to go, so I just created my bonfire by it and started building. After a few days I realized that Doc is tied to the bonfire and he's just been existing in this empty pocket of the keep with just a pool so I took some time and raised the foundation enough to carve a house out for him. I started using the foundation as a trophy wall to display all the trophies we can get so far, dug out the pool and decorated around it to make it less boring and rocky. Also, Zelda spider! Finally found a place to put that design that had been sitting in my head for a while as I was going around framing. Put a chest nearby to keep my rod and ring. Later on I built him a garden to grow his corn and a tavern just outside the door a bit.

Galen never went into that house so as I kept building the keep up I started using it as "my" room in the keep because it's close to all my storage and stations and I can AFK while hanging out with Doc and Vincent Valentine.

Private spot at one of the entrances to the guest house

Was experimenting with using weathered arches as shelves and ended up carving out this little area between the rock and entrance. Used the croc to cover in the area on the opposite side of the entrance, he illuminated well so I just decided to keep it. Used stone roof corners, I think the 64 degree angled ones, to make the false stones around the top of the fountain after wrapping it in the ceramic border

Bonfireplace

Didn't want to fully enclose it so I only surrounded it 1 unit high with wall and put a fireplace background on it with stone pillars and beams and squashed two arches together in the middle. Ceramic pieces on top, triangles and some border piece going around the edges
