Wife has asked for separation
We’ve had a few practical talks and I’ve got a million questions and I’m finally in the stable mind to start finding answers.
We say we want an amicable divorce/separation, however she makes nearly twice as much as me, 52k vs 98k. If we separate I will lose my home, and will be priced out of my town and very likely need to move which may likely impact my ability to continue a career that pays this much. We moved to this town temporarily to make a commute easier for her, and we fell in love with it, making the decision to buy a condo when we couldn’t find any rentals. Our original plan was to move to another nearby town in order for me to attend school and start working in the same field as her (education), partly as a lifestyle choice, and party due to the fact I held a teaching position temporary when up north I enjoyed it. I would like to go to back to school if possible. I need to be able to land on my feet but my options are limited to a few towns where I have family or friends where I won’t be priced out.
It’s probably not relevant but when we first met she moved in and I supported both of us with supplemental student loans.
My question is what are my options do I seek spousal support, do I need a lawyer? Is there anything I need to know?
