I just bought this aborted single speed conversion for next to nothing, and thought I might have a stab at identifying what the frame is.
Judging by the weight, components, separate derailleur hanger and lack of any manufacturer stampings on the dropouts, I would guess it's a pretty low end touring bike, but the finishing on the lugs looks much nicer than anything produced domestically here in Sweden. This leads me to belive it's made in either Japan or Taiwan. Googles AI suggests that the serial number (K82028396) stamped on the BB points to it being a Giant, but it would be nice to be able to confirm if this is the case.
I don't know if any of the components are original, but for what it's worth the RD is a Shimano Tourney the FD is an AX-50 and the crankset is a Thun Aero Coronado with riveted chainrings and a chain guard. It does have a curious heart-shaped detail on the down tube (a stop for the shifters?) which perhaps, together with the lug shapes, could make the frame identifiable by someone?
Any help would be appreciated!
