I recently started looking into things because of twitching in my tongue. It started in a small spot on the left side but recently I’ve been feeling it more widespread on the right.

I’ve never much been bothered by twitching, because I twitch all the time and have for as long as I can remember. It’s usually limited to single spots on my calves and arms, but can happen anywhere. I always actually kind of liked it, because it reminds me of the twitch responses I get after a massage.

I’m now reading that this isn’t normal, which feels a bit odd when it’s been a part of me as long as I can remember. But I’m wondering if I’m defining twitching differently? Are people saying that it’s not normal to twitch so much that your limb jerks, or is it really the case that most people don’t have sporadic twitches up and down their limbs in maybe quarter sized spots all day long?

And if it’s not normal, if it has been all of my adult life, certainly it’s not ALS. Is it likely BFS and should I care?

Didn’t think much of this, looked into it today, and panicked.

For at least a month, maybe a few months at this point, I felt what seemed like a twitch, flutter, or spasm on the bottom, left, underside of my tongue. It was always in a head if a pin sized location.Today I’ve started feeling it on the right side, apparently covering more territory, on the side and top. I don’t actually feel my tongue moving, but like a flutter in or under. I’ve tried to catch it in the mirror or put my finger on it. So far I’m not seeing or feeling anything with my finger. I was confused, because some of what I’m reading suggests the twitching to look out for is quite visible while one (seemingly reliable) sour described “tiny” movements in the surface. Can you help me evaluate this?

I am 38, so I known this is relatively rare in my subgroup. Is it also the case that presentation in the mouth skews older as well? Any specifics on that? Would I expect to see worsening by now? Is the changing sides relevant?
