All Symptoms Positive: Negative Test
Our boy is an 18 month old Maine coon cat. About two weeks ago he started losing weight fast (thanks litter robot).. showed little to no interest in food... became lethargic... breathing became heavy... a cat that was once the life of the family was in a corner wasting away.
I couldn't wait any longer and took him to the vet. Anemia.. fever.. low platelets.. vet gave him an antibiotic shot and asked us to come back in two days to do another blood test. Came back and platelets were worse, the vet looked closer and found fluid in lungs and abdomen
I guess we were lucky, our vet is amazing... the vet immediately landed on FIP, but since it's uncommon in their practice she reached out to multiple specialists that agreed that FIP was most likely. She suggested we order and start GS antivirals while we waited on results.
We are on dose 3 of the antivirals.. he's looking and acting better, but we just received the test results and they were negative.
How common an occurrence is it to have all symptoms pointing to wet FIP, but get a negative test result?
