remembering the time i won the lottery

picture this: a rarepair for a mid-sized fandom. you check ao3, zero fics. no threadfics, no discussion, no art, no nothing.

you mindlessly scroll through reddit one day. you're on the ao3 sub — suddenly, you find someone mention they wrote a 50k+ fic on your ship... O.O)

you double check ao3, it's not there. hmmm... hesitantly, you dm this stranger about the whereabouts of their fic and you're given the link to their wip!

apart from your rarepair, two of your other ships are on there, and the tags are all perfectly catered to your preferences (mind you, these arent common tags to associate with these characters!)

fuck, you read it. the writing's splendid. the plot intriguing. the characters charming. it's gorgeous. it's perfect.

you give your compliments to the author 👌 amazing. mwa mwa, better than anything you could ask for... and they give you another 10k words of its sequel fic.

No, you dont wake up! this wasnt a dream! and now in your hands, somehow, are a pair of fanfics so perfectly crafted as tho a five star chef coincidentally decided to reverse engineer your favorite childhood meal to share with you

it turns out having a rarepair isnt so bad after all

How did the term 'stan' become associated with kpop specifically?

I tried to look it up but a lot of responses were just explaining its origin from eminem's song and how its modern usage has largely diverged from its initial connotations. I didn't find much coverage about the "in-between" times of how a term from a white american rapper gradually became more predominant slang in kpop fandom spaces.

Admittedly i now sometimes see 'stan' outside of kpop fandoms (like nowadays i see people 'stanning' taylor swift and other female celebrities), but there was definitely a time where it was mainly kpop fans using it (iirc)

so... yea, idk can someone still remember why or how it became so associated with kpop? how did 'stanning' an idol become a thing as opposed to saying sumn like 'become a fan of' ?

didnt know where else to ask this

i feel like i remember it being marketed as a 'streams every sunday' typa deal, but looking at the posting date for previous streams, it seems to be on wednesday?

just wondering, maybe they stream and post on different days? Idk
