Hello!
Last year in June I took a round of amoxicillin and developed a yeast infection a week or two after that I hadn't clocked as a yeast infection at the time. I ignored it until it became a bit more severe and ended up getting checked out, but I was again prescribed another round of amoxicillin at the same time in as taking fluconazole in August. The yeast infection felt like it cleared up and I assumed that was the end of it.
Then over the course of the next three to four months, every time I got my period, my vagina and vulva slowly increased from feeling a little more sensitive to actual itching, but cleared as soon as I got my period. I went back to my OGBYN, got prescribed another round of fluconazole, but it didn't clear the external itching. So I began using Monistat externally (7 day treatment) - which had helped and felt like it cleared up. I ended up having sex with my boyfriend the day after finishing my Monistat round and the external itching came back immediately. It felt like there were specific spots on both my vulva and perianal area that would itch like crazy. The itching was also directly over my (excuse my language) asshole and made it incredibly hard to walk at work.
I scheduled a third visit with my OBGYN and had another swab done to test for BV and yeast, both came back negative but she prescribed me a Nystatin ointment to help the external itching. The Nystatin seemed to have helped but as soon as my period came around, it felt like the symptoms came back and the Nystatin was no longer helpful. I was using the Nystatin three times a day for roughly a month. Unfortunately my doctors office experienced a cyber attack just as I was running out of Nystatin and couldn't get it refilled or talk to my doctor about anything.
Once the Nystatin ran out, I used the Monistat 7 day treatment again to try to keep the itching at bay, and finally got back into my doctors office right when I finished that round of treatment.
This time I asked for an external swab to be done to test for yeast because I came back negative for internal yeast, but my doctor informed me there is no external swab for this type of yeast. She then told me that the yeast from inside the vagina cannot exist on the vulva or perianal area, and that she could precribe me another round of fluconazole and Triamcinolone Acetonide cream, to use two times a day and to go to a dermatologist from here on out. She did do another internal swab for me that tested negative.
I have only been on this treatment for a few days, and I cannot tell if it's working or not. I don't know what to do, but I am losing my mind over how itchy everything is. The itching in my perianal area feels sharp, like there's something under my skin moving, but it stays in the same two to three spots each time. The vulva itching can feel sharp, but also feels like a general itch thats also located only in the same few spots. The itching also gets worse after using the cream, but calms down after a few hours. Then during the day it'll itch once or twice until I use the cream again.
I am 25, I have a boyfriend. We don't have sex too often, and have only had sex maybe three times since January. Every time we use a condom as I am not on birth control.
I was tested for STD's recently and tested negative, he hasn't been tested in a while as far as I am aware.
I don't have allergies aside from general pollen allergies, but this all went on during the colder months and I don't get allergies in the winter. I switched from cleaning my underwear and wash cloths to a non scented and gentle detergent. I use a PH balanced wash on both my perianal and vulva (not inside my vagina ever). I cut out most sugar. I don't sleep with underwear on anymore. I take a probiotic that claims it helps reduce and prevent yeast daily. I have started eating a ton of yogurt, as well as eating kimchi and kombucha to get some extra probiotics in me. I have increased my water intake as well.
I also have been peeing like crazy, its like as soon as I get a drop of water in me, I am running to the bathroom and letting out an ocean. It's incredibly urgent every time as well. I had a UTI test done in case and only got back "possible contaminants". I have to call my doctor to see what's up with that as nothing has been prescribed and I can no longer see the test results.
Any advice would be lovely.
