Reggae/ska punk show

Hey portland people! I used to be a lot like most, scornful of ska and associating it all with Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks and mozzarella sticks. You get it. I would have never considered myself someone who would enjoy ska music.

Well. In October of 2025 I was invited to see the Cherry Poppin Daddies at Dante's with my friends. Sure. I showed up early and the very first band that played absolutely blew me away. I quickly realized I had an incredibly narrow view of ska. I got into Jamaican ska, rocksteady and roots reggae. Now these are my absolute favorite genres of music. I can't get enough. My catalyst was this band, the Georgetown Orbits. They're really great musicians. No one tell them I said any of this or I'll look goofy.

If you like ska, you should come see them. If you think you don't, like I did, but have an open mind, you should also come see them. Maybe they'll change your mind like they did for me. I promise, the musicianship on display tonight will be evident to anyone with ears. The Skylarkers are also top notch, easily one of my favorite portland bands. Our DJ, Honey-D, is an excellent musician and songwriter. These are all people who have inspired me to create and play in my own ska band (Hand Stuff). Not only that, they are willing to let us be on a bill with them. I'm incredibly honored.

These are great people. I hope some of you see what I see in them. GTO is coming all the way down to Portland from Seattle just because I asked them to. Really cool of them. Anyway yeah come to our show! June 20th, 2026. Doors at 8pm. World Famous Kenton Club. $15
