I’m attempting to make the Daughter Judy Fort Dress right now. The pattern comes in 2 size ranges. My measurements overall suit the lower range of sizes better, some of my measurements fall off the larger size range, so choosing that would cause more problems than the lower range, which I selected.

The lower range, which I fall into the upper end of, includes XS-XXL and I’m noticing a larger gap between XL-XXL measurements than the lower sizes. For ex. 4” difference between the finished waist measurement of XL- XXL vs a 2” finished waist difference between S-M and M-L.
As a 2” difference between the sizes I fall between would suit me perfectly, I now have to grade several pattern pieces in a kind of frustrating way.

My question is, do we find this common? To encompass a larger range of space between upper sizes, when lower sizes have more finessed fits between them? It’s really looking like I may have to do a lot of reshaping curves of facings etc. and I feel like another size could have been included here.

I know grading is a lot of ratio and proportion, but I kind of feel like the mid size body is kind of less prioritized than upper and lower ends of graded sizes? What does everyone else think?
I’ve found myself directly between size ranges before, and luckily many companies do over lap in the middle, but I’m wondering other peoples midsize pattern experiences?

Edit: plus sizes have always been under represented and deprioritized and simply nonexistent in most industries for much of the industrialized era, broadly.
