I am shopping for a specific frame in one of its available colors. I have been to five different optical stores who carry the frame as a demo model, but none of their demos are in the color that I want. Four of the five have advised me that they can order the frame in the desired color, then once it arrives, measure me and send it off to the lab. OR I could be measured on the demo frame immediately, but then I cannot ask for the frame to be in any other color. They insist their lab will only send back the frame in the color that was sent to them with my measurements. One of the five advised me that they keep one of each model in the demo frames, but not all colors, because once they measure me on the demo frame, I can order it to come back with my Rx in any of the available colors of that frame.
So for anyone who works in labs or otherwise understands these policies, help me understand what kind of optician I should go to, or what kind of lab to ensure they use, in order to find an optical store who will be like store number 5, and allow me to be measured on a demo frame but then order it in a different available color.
I suspect it has to do with the lab not wanting to take the risk of making an erroneous order and having to eat the cost. When they will only purchase the exact frame that is in front of them, there is no chance they make a mistake transposing a number or something. So does store number 5 just drop ship the desired frames to the lab?
