PSA: Found a case that fits the Odin 2 Portal with the grip perfectly
Happy to share that I have found a case that fits the Odin 2 Portal perfect with the grip case on. This is a common question that gets asked around in this subreddit with many people recommending the Skull & Co for the Ally X however I purchased that case and while the device fits, it is way too big. This case that I found on AliExpress fits like a glove and is essentially the same size as the original AYN case which makes it much easier to pack and doesn't cause the device to shift around inside of the case.
AliExpress Link - there are other listings for what looks to be essentially the same thing but this is the exact one that I purchased.
Additional Review Notes
- Case is built somewhat reasonably well. Not the best but not the worst. I would say its a touch less sturdy than the OEM AYN case. It flexes a tad more but nothing significant
- Instead of a velcro strap, it has a stretchy loop to secure the device. You don't need to use it though because the device fits into the case regardless of weather you use it or not (Pictures 1, 2, 3).
- Pictures 4 and 5 are size comparisons of the case which is on the bottom to the AYN case and the Skull & Co. As you can see it is nearly the same size as the original case and noticeably smaller than the Skull & Co case.
- Picture 6 is to show how much unnecessary extra room is in the Skull & Co case. IMO this was unacceptable because it made packing the device extremely bulky for no reason.
- The strap for the case is kinda forgettable. It doesn't extend to the other side of the top so its just a loop that hangs from the left side.
- The AliExpress case smelled VERY BAD. I did have to wash it with warm water and a diluted soap and vinegar spray to make sure all of the manufacturing smells were gone. Not really a problem but something to note because manufacturing fumes are not the business lol
Let me know if you guys have any additional questions! I know we have been looking for a case that fits the device with the grip so wanted to share my findings with everyone. Have a good one.
