You have like 50/50 odds to move forward the frontline of a 64 player server by just bringing smokes
with good placement that is. Focus on cutting off the enemy's line of fire vs just trying to make a path. Two smokes is really a lot perfectly placed and you can easily take a point with them and just two other people against like 3 to 1 numbers.
Weird but bringing smokes can make you feel like you're commanding your entire team. This is especially good on infantry maps like Achi and Verdun but don't count it out on vehicle maps as well. Also don't forget the medic perk that smokes out downed squadmates when you mark them! Probably the best perk in the game

My Conquest Map Tier List after 600+ hours
disclaimer that "ok" means "ok" compared to the other battlefield 1 maps. I've always thought this game had some of the best large multiplayer maps ever only being beaten by a select few bf3 maps, so i wanted to rank them.
