Old Town Train Crossing (McCarver) Update

I was curious if there were any updates on what's going on with the silent crossing system which had failed and with trains now blowing their horns full blast. Per TNT, the city should have a new silent crossing system in place sometime in mid-late June, as the story was published Apr 23 and said 7-9 weeks until installation.

Thought I'd post this here for any other curious folks.

Enjoy the noise while it lasts :)

Hi all, I am browsing around looking into getting a few decks of nicer playing cards, but I am having trouble determining the right terminology to search for what I really want. I was hoping some folks in this forum could help give me the right vocabulary to properly go searching for what it is I envision in my mind.

I am looking for something with a bit more interesting design than workaday playing cards, but I also think I am a bit conservative in terms of my design taste in this regard. I guess how I would describe what I am looking for is something between "vintage" or "traditional" or maybe neo-traditional in style. In essence, cards with a white or off-white field, distinct pips, and face/court cards stylized in a manner such that there is still an obvious king/queen/jack character on the field. I prefer muted or faded colors, though I prefer they stick somewhat close to the traditional palette of reds/blacks/blues/yellows, but I think I'm sort of open on this front. For card backs, I prefer maybe 1-2 colors plus white

Some examples of things I've seen in my browsing that I sort of like are

  • A sort of 'neo traditional' example link
  • A whimsy arrangement of traditional style link
  • A themed 'traditional' presentation link
  • A highly stylized homage to traditional cards link

So broadly I think of these as all having obvious ties to the traditional presentation of a French deck (e.g. basic Bicycle cards etc) and the art mostly referential to 'standard'

Some things I don't personally like are metallic accenting, dark cards, colors that are too far away from the traditional palette, abstract designs, pop culture-based themes.

If this is too non-specific, I can accept that feedback as well. (That's just confirming the problem I have.)

But if this makes any sense and you feel like you can improve my terminology/vocab in this regard, or even if you have specific recommendations based on the above gibberish, I would be quite appreciative.

Thanks in advance!

I am playing with bots on the Karman app and somehow my partner was able to open just now with a meld of only 15 pts? I am using the default rules of the app, and as far as I know you need to lay down the minimum score in one or more melds in order to open. Are there circumstances under which that is not the case?

I am trying to figure out what is legal in classic canasta in the following situation.

Say I have only two cards in my hand, a pair. My team has no canastas, so we can't go out yet. The top card on the discard pile would complete the meld with my pair. There are more than two other cards in the discard pile.

Am I allowed to pick up the discard pile?

My logic is that I can complete a meld with the top card, and I also would have a card to discard without going out, since we don't yet have a meld.

Is this legal?
