I'm 27M 82 kg. I've been lifting since last summer. I started off as a complete beginner weighing around 74 kg, skinny fat and astoundingly weak. My current routine:
- Flat barbell bench press
- Lat pulldown
- Incline dumbbell press
- Chest supported machine rows
- Lateral dumbbell raises
On average, I do this twice per week. It's the only routine I managed to be consistent with over the past 8 or so months. I've seen progress in the gym (more than doubled my starting numbers on all lifts, which isn't saying much as I was very weak at the start), but I haven't seen tremendous visual progress outside the gym (still skinny fat). I'd like to start addressing that now that I've built up consistency and understand lifting better.
I'm wondering if I'd get better mileage if I changed up my routine. Ideally I want to be in the gym max 3 times a week; I understand that's suboptimal but I'd struggle to find the time otherwise.
One idea I had was to add another day in the gym where I did squats, deadlifts, and direct arm work, while doing two chest + back days per week. Does that sound like a good use of 3 days per week in the gym? If not, can you please recommend something that'd be more optimal?
Open to suggestions, many thanks for your time.
