Peak summer day in Vermont!

We who live in Vermont suffer for months on end for a handful of summer weekend days like this! I took advantage and biked 27 miles on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, using this creemee stand as my refreshment stop and turnaround point. 10/10 no notes.

Foxboro 4th of July show 1987

In honor of the 4th of July, I am thinking back to my first Grateful Dead show, the double bill with Bob Dylan in 1987. As my first show, I was so excited and didn't know what to expect. Sadly, even though I was a complete rookie, I knew even then that the show was a dog. Three reasons:

  1. They only played one (long-ish) set.

  2. The set list was dominated by songs from In the Dark (Touch, Bucket, Tons of Steel, West LA, Throwin').

  3. The Dylan & the Dead set was dreadful (on a paper, a match made in heaven; in reality, not so much).

I suppose I shouldn't gripe - for a 17 year old kid from rural New England, I should be grateful to have had the experience. But let's be honest, not every show was a 5-star trip across the galaxy! Luckily I got to see many of those 5-star excursions in the years to come (as well as a few more dogs, TBH).

I'd be curious to hear what others remember from that show - good or bad!

Happy 4th everyone! Wave that flag.

Lodging tips for first time visitors?

Hello! My spouse and I will be making our first trip to PR in early November. I have a conference in San Juan and then we are planning to stay a few days extra for vacation. We’d love tips on places to stay.

Things we’d like:
- Resort setting out of town
- Nice pool
- Swimmable beach
- Good food
- Vibe on the quieter side

Things we don’t need:
- Golf
- Nightlife (beyond being able to get a cocktail when we want one)
- Overwhelming numbers of kids and noise

As a thought experiment I asked ChatGPT for options that were similar to Dorado Beach but priced more in the $300-400 range. I gave me a couple of Hyatts (Vacation Club at Hacienda Del Mar and Regency Grand Reserve), and one or two others.

Grateful for any further advice you all could offer a couple of first time PR visitors! Clarifying questions welcome. Thank you!
