Grateful Dead - Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, CA 7/3/66 The earliest full Dead show ever released on vinyl!

Excited to be spinning this show today. Always enjoy an etching as well. I’ve included a photo of that and the liner notes. And the poster from my first Furthur show for the throwback vibe (~);}

Donna and Comes a Time, May 21, 1977, Lakeland

Found this via Headyversions. Maybe I zeroed in on it as the top ranked version on an official release?

Been digging deep into this recording, can’t stop playing the recording, playing it on guitar and even singing it (not my forte, to say the least).

Funny, I found Jerry ballads to be too slow when I was young. Now they are my favs (big surprise: age!). And this one really speaks to me now: it evokes a particular bittersweet life experience I’ve had.

Anyway, there are a dozen things I love about this version. But I am here to call out how lovely Donna’s part is. I love when she sings so gentle plaintive and clear.

Thanks Donna.

The story behind this bandana, sold on the 1981 summer tour

In the summer of 1981, two cousins screen printed 300 custom Grateful Dead bandanas and drove twelve hours to the Zoo Amphitheater in Oklahoma City to sell them for $12 each.

The bandanas sold out in the first five shows. The two cousins ordered 600 more—900 total—and kept going: Salt Lake City, Seattle, Eugene, Long Beach, Tempe, and finally Las Vegas, inside the Aladdin Casino, for the fifteenth and final show of the summer.

Between Salt Lake City and Seattle, they traveled in a caravan of over a hundred cars, driving overnight through the mountains and high desert under the stars.

Jeffrey Berger died in 2011, in a plane crash. That summer—the drives, the shows, the community found on that tour—is one of the things his cousin holds onto most.

If you were on that tour, or you still have one of these bandanas, we'd love to hear from you.

45 years ago - after a 🔥 4th of July show at Manor Downs, we had to drive almost 400 miles to the next show to see the Grateful Dead's first ever performance at the Zoo Amphitheatre in Oklahoma City, OK on 7/5/81 - we were wiped out from the travel but Jerry delivered🫠💥🌞🎶

10/27/1991 Vinyl Find

Found this at the local record store and WHAT a find! The Iko Iko —> Mona —> The Wheel is such a ride, with Santana and Duncan ripping it. I’ve spun it a few times already this weekend ✌🏻

I started listening to the Grateful Dead this week

Not sure what I think about what I’ve listened to so far. My favorite songs from them right now are Morning Dew, Uncle John’s Band, Cumberland Blues, Truckin’, and Tennessee Jed (Live in Paris). I’ve only listened to a small number of songs from them. Their catalog is massive when you count the live albums. That’s why I’m focusing more on their studio albums right now.

I decided to listen to the Grateful Dead mainly because my dad is a fan of them. He’s been one since I was little. I gifted him Europe ‘72 on vinyl for Father’s Day this year and that’s when I decided to start listening to the Grateful Dead.

It’s a beautiful experience getting into new music and listening to different artists and bands.

Did dead ever play more than 2 songs in an encore?

Sorry if this is dumb question. Somewhat of a new fan but it seems that all the "jam" bands that came after them always play longer encores than the Dead ever did

Your Ideal Show, But in Reverse!

Was skipping and jumping through some of my favorites and was wondering (I personally don’t have an answer yet)—if you totally reversed a show from encore to start, what’d be your favorite show or set list? Curious to hear!
