Bruce Hornsby featuring Pat Metheny - China Doll

Remarkable guitar solo (not surprising, obviously)...but another bit of trivia is that Phil Collins provides a pretty subtle background vocal here (plus 3 other songs on the album).

Favorite Jazz Album of 2026?

What is everyone's favorite jazz record released this year?
A few contenders for me:

  1. Patternmaster by Mark Turner: An all-timer set of tunes and solos from one of the best living tenor sax players and the killer band we've gotten to hear so much of.
  2. Side-Eye III+ by Pat Metheny: If you're like me and sort of checked out of Pat for a hot minute, this is the perfect time to swing back in. This record starts burning and never really lets up.
  3. Immanuel Wilkins Quartet Live at the Village Vanguard Vol 1: Immanuel Wilkins leads one of the best bands out there in a three volume live set of Village Vanguard performances, and Volume 1 is absolutely some of the best I've heard from him and his band.
  4. Deface the Currency by The Messthetics and James Brandon Lewis: Holdsworthian guitar soloing meets James Brandon Lewis' own unique style. This one's intense but super rewarding, and maybe the best fusion record I've heard this year.
