I volunteered at a thrift today and the manager let me have a Steely Dan shirt that was about to be recycled

It needs to be washed but overall good condition. I’m not sure if it’s authentic but I love the graphic on the front and back. I’m so happy the manager let me have it. 😭

https://www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/2239311/80s-pop-legend-gary-johnson-dead

> Gary Johnson, bass player with the legendary 80s pop band China Crisis died "peacefully" on Wednesday August 12 at the age of 61. No cause of death was revealed but the news was confirmed by his younger sister Jan Hughes in a comment on a China Crisis fan page on Facebook. "Gazza was my elder brother. He passed peacefully today at 12:05 with his wife Jopie by his side. Lovely to see some lovey comments about him, and him being such a talented bass player. Remember him getting his first guitar and learning to play it in his bedroom as a teenager. Sad day for all. Sleep tight bruv, " she penned. > > Gary was a member of Liverpudlian New Wave Band Hambi & the Dance who released the album Heartache in 1982. He then joined China Crisis between 1983 and 1989 and he rejoined them for a period in 1995. Alongside bandmates Gary Daly, Eddie Lundon and Kevin Wilkinson he saw 10 singles enter the UK Top 50 chart, with 5 of those reaching the Top 40.

Best Steely Dan cover, tribute band?

Looking to find a great Steely Dan tribute/cover band concert recommendation in the US. I miss these guys. Saw them at The World in Tinley Park, IL in 2006. Michael McDonald was with them. Magical.

Daily Song Discussion #50: Aja

I want to gauge SD fans and see what this sub considers their all time best song. Here are what I would consider is a fair assessment scores:

10- Reserved for only their absolute best songs, ones that are on daily rotation

8,9- Also among their best, songs that display something that is memorable and worth revisiting

6,7- Decent to good, songs that are not as played as their ultimate best but are still ones that you revisit

5- okay, not bad but not ones you come back to often

3,4- Mediocre to meh, songs that you don't play often but don't go out of your way to skip

2- skippable, not good at all

1- vomit-inducing (think: what were they on when they made this?!)

0- makes you want to commit seppuku

Let's begin with the second track, the self-titled Aja.

Ongoing ratings for The Royal Scam:

BLACK COW—9.69

Highest: Kid Charlemagne (9.82)

Lowest: East St. Louis Toodle-Oo (4.75)

Steely Dan Samples in Hip-Hop

So I know the most famous one is when Kanye sampled Kid Charlemagne for "Champion". I also recently learned about De La Soul sampling Peg for "Eye Know". Two amazing tracks, in my opinion.

But are there any other Steely Dan samples in hip hop songs? I love both the Dan and hip-hop so I'm super curious.
