What are your thoughts of Mike Stern?
On the one hand, Between The Lines was my first fusion album 30 years ago and I consider it a masterpiece. He plays on one of my favorite albums - Steps Ahead: Live in Tokyo. His solo on Michael Brecker band's Original Rays (Wiesen Austria) is simply incredible. And lastly, He put on one of the best concerts - with Dennis Chambers - I have ever seen.
On the other hand, and maybe it's because I've just heard a lot of his material, I can almost anticipate what he's going to play on nearly every solo. That's just not the case with his contemporaries like Metheny or Scofield.
What do you think of Mike Stern and are there any obscure recordings that are a must listen to?
