Dilemma - Grand Strategy Game but conquest is not the only goal

Hey everyone,

I have been working on a real time grand strategy game in the spirit of Emperor of the Fading suns, or civ 2.

The idea is that it's a multi planet persistent universe (But really played on the surface of planetary bodies) where players can conquer territory and beer in control of a fiefdom. My biggest worry is this.

The game is already a very capable strategy game, however I really would like to enable additional playstyles besides "Conquer all". So i wonder, what could i offer players? I have come up with some supportive ideas like you could build armies and sell them to the highest bidder, or provide entertainment. But so far none of these ideas are as rewarding as the battle concept.

There is currently a market system in the game, however resources are infinite and price just adjust up or down depending on demand.

I'd love your thoughts on what kind of playstyles you would be interested in and what kind of mechanics would enable those playstyles! Thank you for your thoughts!

Worldkampf 72 - Mobile Real Time Empire / War Game

Hi all, I wanted to introduce Worldkampf '72, a 2D Top Down Grand Strategy Real Time game.
I've been working on it for the past half year and am pretty excited about its state now.

The game plays in an alternative reality year 1972 where the Kaiser (emperor) got assassinated and replaced by an usurper. No longer bound by fealty, all the various Nobles (aka you) rebell and start charting their own empires. The technology is between 1970s and futuristic with mechs.

The game's timeline differs from ours in that in the 15th centuries the planet was contacted by an alien race, the Tuan. However not much is known about them except that they provide

The game is a persistent world multiplayer game, however it features multiple planets and now also space platforms, connected by a "bus" like network of alien ships that provide shipping between the worlds for a cost.

The game is intended to be played off an on. Almost all features (such as construction and defense can be automated) as this is not intended to be a game that must be played every five minutes.

You can conquer territory, sell goods, or tend a peaceful fiefdom, whatever your playstyle, I am interested to make this work. Its really about creating a persistent universe.

Let me know if you have any questions, or check it out at www.worldkampf.com/game (live view in the game or www.worldkampf.com/worlds for the solar system map.

Would love to get any feedback, especially also if there are interface issues I might have missed. Cheers!
