Tips for High School?

Hi! After some struggle with my placement, I’m now going to be student teaching at a high school. My student teaching experience in a high school environment is minimal at best, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips for it? This is mainly for classroom management, as well as lesson planning. Anything would help!

Occtis and Thaisha Dynamic

First and foremost: PLEASE DO NOT TURN THIS COMMENTS SECTION INTO AN AABRIA DEBATE. That is not what I’m talking about here!

With the new tables made up following episode 31, I I’m very excited to see how the dynamic between Thaisha and Occtis shifts now that they aren’t at the same table. I’m someone who’s very into intricate characters and flawed dynamics, and their relationship has been feeding me well.

Obviously, their relationship is pseudo-parental, with Thaisha stepping in and often acting motherly to Occtis, who we can only assume does not have a motherly figure to begin with (I feel like we would have seen her by now with Primus at the meeting). However, the campaign leaves it unclear whether or not this relationship is healthy or even consented upon IC.

Their interactions during the Barrowdell are particularly interesting me, as it’s a stark difference from how their relationship had been leading up to it. Thaisha was frustrated with the actions of the Tachonis, and seemed to take it out on the nearest one. It also did not help that Julien was very vocal about not trusting Occtis, and confided in her as much.

The scene where Occtis stuck up for himself and argued against her felt very powerful. From the first few episodes he did not seem nearly as confident as he did during this moment.

They’ve since parted on bittersweet terms, with very little about their argument at the Barrowdell being addressed. Im excited to see how the relationship develops now that they are apart, and I hope that both Occtis and Thaisha begin to see each other more as equals instead of the implicit power present in the pseudo-parent/child dynamic they currently have.

How screwed am I?

Currently I am expecting to student teach during this fall semester. In preparation for this, I’ve been checking my emails and forms to ensure everything is in order. That’s when I noticed I missed a form- a student teaching background check, due nearly a month ago.

I had not been told to anticipate such a thing, and the first email mentioning it happened nearly a month after moving out of my dorm. I’ve been able to start two of the steps, and I’ve reached out to the coordinator. Everything else seems in order- I’m still registered to student teach, and I still have a placement. I just wanted a general consensus on how screwed I am, and whether or not I will be able to student teach this upcoming Fall.

Before anyone says anything, yes, I am aware I messed up by not checking this email. I’m also curious if anyone else experienced something similar.

Imposter Syndrome about Emotional Abuse

Heads up that this is mostly to vent 👍

To start things off- I’m a young adult in my early twenties, and for a while my father was emotionally neglectful, and later emotionally abusive. At least, I think so. I know for a fact there were a few months there where he did for sure, but thats because it was easy to identify and my therapist reaffirmed my feelings.

Now, I don’t go to my therapist anymore, because she transferred to a different office. And it’s becoming harder and harder to figure out whether this is a normal, everyday argument, or emotional abuse.

I feel caged and pressured, and one discussion we have can almost ruin my whole day. We’ll have conversations where he makes me feel bad, and I end up being the one apologizing to him. He’ll start saying things like “Oh, so I’m the bad guy, huh?!” or “I guess I just do everything wrong”, and it’s so hard.

I don’t want to overreact or be overly sensitive, but he shouldn’t make me feel like that, right?

Abuse is such a strong word, and I don’t want to mislabel what I’m experiencing, but I seriously exhibit depression symptoms whenever we have one of these moments.
