Basically, I started a new job I am on 3 person executive team. It’s been 2 months all is well. I had a strange situation. My boss was working on a project for like 2 months and got periodic feedback from me. He finished the project showed me the excel spreadsheet and asked me to present it to his boss. So in preparation I reviewed an old version, asked him all the questions I could but he refused to show me the sheet I would be talking about and insisted to share screen. So… it means I couldn’t see what I was actually presenting until it was show time. I did my best, but he interrupted constantly about aspects I couldn’t possibly know and some that weren’t relevant. Afterwards he was upset I didn’t know more about it. I actually prepared and said everything I knew and had a meeting first to verify. Anyone understand this? Did he desperately want to look good for his audience so he just withheld information and data from me? Why not just present his own project?
Topping it off, he finished up the meeting asking his boss the exact questions I already asked and gave guidance to subordinates on (and told him previously). It made me feel like he felt the need to verify the things I say. Truthfully I’ve been a director in various roles for 15 years and I am currently chief of staff.
Am I not justified to be agitated by this? I’m planning to tell him if he doesn’t trust me then he has the wrong person for the job and going back to my old position.
Am I being too harsh or should I just call him out on it and say that’s not acceptable? Give it a warning ?
