25 and kinda defeated can’t land an electrical apprenticeship despite construction experience
Hey guys, I’ve been looking for an electrical apprenticeship for a while now and haven’t gotten anything. I honestly thought I’d be a strong candidate since I’ve worked construction for a while I’ve been a top man for 3 years now, basically a jr foreman. But I keep getting rejected and I don’t know what the next step is.
I was planning to defer school so I could get into the workforce, and now I feel like I should’ve gone into trades years ago since I love hands-on, physical work.
A few things I’m weighing
- PACT should I apply? I don’t know if they’ll take me because of my age.
- Solar installer job offer I’d be taking a huge pay cut, and the hours wouldn’t count toward my AIT since the contract says “labourer” and not “1st year apprentice.” But they have an electrical side and maybe with time they would promote me but I assume it would take a whole year and I don’t want to waste time being a labourer and the hours don’t mean anything should I still take it?
- NAIT or should I just go to NAIT and become an indentured apprentice?
I’m so confused and pretty frustrated right now. I really thought I had an edge with my experience, but I guess not. If you guys have any info or advice, it’s badly needed. Thanks.
