Hi there, I'm an author who is unfamiliar with a lot of dance culture, and I have unfortunately written myself into a corner where one character is giving life advice, using community dance as an object lesson. The general tone of it is "better to dance poorly than to be apart from everyone".

Suppose there is a poor dancer on the dance floor. They aren't trying to be disruptive, they're genuinely just bad and trying to join the fun, but their movements are requiring the whole floor to adjust to avoid colliding with them or each-other.
In situations where things are flexible and the group wants everyone to be included, how do you talk about and respond to moments like this without either shaming the bad dancer or shutting down the dance floor?

I'd welcome responses from a broad range of communities and dance-types, I'm also genuinely curious as someone who, themself, is a bad dancer and too scared to get on the floor XD
