With the Federal Cannabis Schedule Change Oregon cannabis is at a fork in the road: local ownership vs. consolidation
Oregon’s cannabis scene was built by small operators and local communities. Right now, it feels like we’re in a consolidation phase where the rules of the game aren’t just “who has the best price.” It’s also about who can control access to supply and shelf space. If you care about local jobs, local ownership, and consumer choice in the industry, pay attention to what happens in Oregon when independent stores can’t access the same products as large chains. Even if you love low prices today, market concentration tends to change the outcome later. If you’ve noticed product variety shrinking, or you’ve had a favorite shop close, what did you see change first?
