Nora’s first frozen raw: Success!

Nora’s first time with frozen raw! I’m using Lotus Turkey(the darker portion) recipe and a familiar chicken wet food I keep in rotation. At first, she just went for her usual, but eventually, she tried the raw and really seemed to enjoy it!

She also just went to the bathroom and her stool looks nice and solid. I’ll still have to adjust how much I give her at once since she doesn’t like to eat more than like 40-60 calories in a sitting, and will leave stuff to come back to later. Obviously, I can’t leave out raw too long so I will need to figure out how much she’s willing to eat of it in a sitting.

Speaking of which, how long can I leave raw food out and let her come back to it?

Thanks for all of your helpful advice in starting my girl on the quality of diet she deserves!

Hopefully not an add question about probiotics

Before starting my girl on small amounts of raw, I‘m going to get a probiotic supplement for her tomorrow to make things easier on her stomach. What bacteria should I look for in probiotic blends.

I’m not asking for specific brands mainly because I’ll be picking some up right after work as it’s the only time I can this week, and so the exact brands people use may or may not be available at the big-box pet-store that is open late. And I refuse to use Purina products on principle, so no FortiFlora. There used to be a brand that used the exact probiotic in the same amounts as FortiFlora, even saying to compare them lol, but they mysteriously never got any more shipments of it in. Basically a cheaper “generic” version. Definitely no suspicious meddling there.

Anyways, what are the good digestive bacteria to look for? Some supplements also have added fibers like pumpkin or psyllium husk- are those also helpful? Hoping this isn’t too odd of a question for this sub. Any info or even studies, if you want to go that far or have any on-hand, would be greatly appreciate.

Edit: Ended up with Fera Pet probiotic, which seems pretty well-regarded from what I can tell.

Nora’s first raw meal

I realized that I had a trial pack of cat Stella and Chewy’s from a bit ago. Figured it was a good time to introduce her to raw using it. It’s different from frozen raw, but still very different from canned.

She seems to be unsure about it. She did eat a few bites, but lost interest. I’ll keep encouraging her.

New Kitten and I need advice on good raw brands for her

Nora is a 6 month old kitten and will eat literally anything, so no pickiness issues. I want to try her on partial raw, but also want to make sure that I pick a commercial diet that is reliable enough nutrient-wise to give to a growing kitten. Especially so, since she could stand to gain a little weight and is the smallest of her litter. She’s currently a bit under 7lbs according to my kitchen scale(which isn’t very accurate as it’s not for weighing animals or larger weights). I’ve found that it ends up higher than her actual weight since it is higher than with the vet(in which she stood pretty still for)

So, anyway, I just want to incorporate a bit of raw into her diet, especially since she’s more “my” cat than a “family” cat. I’m in Northern California. I just wanna know what you all think are good options specifically for kittens. I might be overly cautious, but it’s because I want to do right by her.

I’ve seen a lot of lists online liking Viva, but I’ve seen a lot of complaints recently.
