John Innes Painting signed, Thrift Store find
Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting here. I found this piece in a thrift store for really cheap, and I wanted to know more about it. Below is what I could find on google:
John Innes was called "The Painter of the Canadian West". In 1927 he was commissioned by David Spencer limited to do 10 murals for their newly renovated Vancouver store. This painting is not one of them, but seems to be a commemorative piece given to all children born in BC on July 1st 1927. (This is just a gist relevant to this artwork).
The artwork seems to be mass produced. The illustration could be a print, though looking closely at the artist's signature, it seems genuine to me. I did search this sub reddit for John Innes, and could not find much. I found this at a really old thrift store in rural BC, which is where something like this would end up.
I am just looking for an/all info about this artist and the painting. It could be mass produced art, but does having an original signature (which is very rare for this artist) make this painting rare ?
I thank you all in advance for your helpful comments and suggestions.
