For smart summer shirts, is it better to wear short sleeves or role up long sleeves?

I’m thinking for a business casual office, maybe a nice dinner out when the weather is hot, would you rather wear a polo shirt or a long-sleeve linen shirt with the sleeves rolled up? I know these shirts aren’t comparing apples to apples, and there’s a place for both, but do you lean towards one look over the other? And are there other options I’m not thinking of?

For context, I’m someone who is used to dressing up and I’m not as confident in my casual style.
