Hey guys,

I am an 5’1 female, late 20s, not very athletic but not too unfit either. I work out and I run, but I wouldn’t say I am the sporty type of athleticism. I recently got very into volleyball and have been trying to play every moment I can. I am in school so it’s not as easy, but I tried.

I started looking around for opportunities to play more, so I found an open sand court and started going regularly. It’s a very stress-free environment with people playing for fun, no actual leagues.

Anyway it’s been more than a month since I started playing, and I don’t play everyday, but I have been trying to practice on my own against a wall regularly. I notice I’ve gotten better at hitting and receiving, though in comparison to the folks at the court, I’m quite shit, which is to be expected. The only issue here is I start to feel like I’m dragging them down when I play. One guy visibly showed passive aggressiveness towards me by telling me to stay off his area, even though I only moved bc the game started and everyone moves. My point is that this is very upsetting and discouraging for me. I understand playing with a much less competent player is frustrating, but how else will I get better if I don’t play? I feel discouraged to join them again, but there’s no other courts near me, and the classes are mostly for kids and teenagers.

Idk if anyone is feeling or experiencing similar things and what you do to get over this stump. I want to keep showing up but I also don’t want to be a bother.
