How to reintroduce my cats
I have had two female indoor cats for 4 years and they generally get along and tolerate each other’s presence. Like most siblings they tend to get a little moody when the other one is being annoying. They are about a year apart in age and my older cat is visually impaired (blind).
At the end of February I took my blind cat to the vet for her check up. After I brought her home my seeing cat was hissing and I kept them separate for the night and the next day everything was normal. I understand that vet air can make cats smell different so I was glad that it resolved itself quickly.
I had to take in the blind cat for a dental procedure at the beginning of May and she had to wear a cone. My seeing cat would not stop hissing every time she saw the other cat. Every time I think they’re okay with each other they really get into it. They’ve had 2 really bad fights which caused me to take my blind cat to the vet on separate occasions for a torn nail and a small scratch in her eye.
I’ve had to keep them separate for nearly 3 months. I’ve tried parts of the Jackson Galaxy method but it’s difficult when one of my cats is blind. Even sensing the seeing cat has her hissing in defense. I’m doing my best but it really breaks my heart to keep them separate especially since I have two for them to keep each other company for when I’m at work.
Any tips or input would be greatly appreciated. I just want them to go back to normal.
