What's your impression of the name Исая? (baby boy name advice)

Hey, so I'm a native-English speaker and my husband is Bulgarian. We live in Bulgaria. I'm currently pregnant with a baby boy. The problem is, my husband likes super unique names and I like classic, traditional names. Somehow we settled on Isaiah / Исая as a compromise -- it's unique in Bulgaria, yet it's a normal and "classic" English name.
My questions are:

  1. How does this name read to you? Too far out there? Too religious? Or is it unusual in an interesting way?

We're not religious - I just really like vowel-heavy names and Isaiah seems like a soft, beautiful name to me.

  1. If you heard the name Исая here, would you automatically assume it was a male name?

Thanks for the input! (Fwiw, I've lived here for 5 years and haven't met anyone named Исая, but it seems similar to the male name Илия, which I have come across a few times.)

Looking for advice from Bulgarians/Slavic speakers

Hey, so I'm a native-English speaker and my husband is Bulgarian. We live in Bulgaria. I'm currently pregnant with a baby boy. The problem is, my husband likes super unique names and I like classic, traditional names. Somehow we settled on Isaiah or Исаия as a compromise -- it's unique in Bulgaria, yet it's a normal and "classic" English name.
My questions are:

  1. HOW unique is this name in a Slavic-speaking country? I know that normally only girls' names end in -a, but there are exceptions (ie, Илия, which is a male name).
  2. If you heard the name Исаия here, would you automatically assume it was a male name?
  3. Is the pronunciation difference going to cause problems further on down the road? (Isaiah is pronounced "ee-sai-YAH" in Bulgarian). Fwiw, I like how it sounds, as I really like soft male names with lots of vowel sounds. I'm just not sure how it will go down here.
