NBD - New 2023 SL7 Comp

Upgraded my SL4 - found a brand new 2023 SL7 at a LBS that they hadn’t been able to move yet. Got it for a good deal.

Upgrades made to match my bike fitting:
New 170mm Ultegra crankset
New 400mm Roval Rapide bars
Used Roval Rapide CLX 50 tubeless with GP5000

Weather didn’t cooperate for the photo, but was still a great ride! Disc brakes are a game changer, Di2 shifting is a joy to use. The deep rim carbon wheels will take some getting used to - the gusts crossing the Golden Gate Bridge pushed me around more than I expected.

Upgrade to SL6/7?

I’ve had my current SL4 for ~6 years, lived in the garage for the last two years as I had nobody to bike with. Now, a few friends have taken up biking and I’m back at it.

Now I’m left with the question of what to do with my bike. It’s great, does what I need it to (SRAM Force groupset, climbs great, goes fast, but I’m not racing or trying to squeeze out an extra 5 watts), but a few thoughts I’m having:

SF streets are rough, and I want to upgrade to tubeless. Rim break set up on the SL4 make tubeless wheel options somewhat limited. Plus having to purchase new wheels and tires, I’m probably out $600 right there with current wheels having little to no resale value.

Resale market for the SL4 will keep going down as new generations come up. If I’m considering spending $600 for new wheels, is it worth it to simply sell this bike and buy an SL6/7 with disc brakes and tubeless tires and be set for the next 5+ years?

Cheers and appreciate any thoughts or input!
