movie stakes have gotten too high to actually care about anymore

every action movie now has to be about saving the entire world or the literal universe. it’s exhausting. when the stakes are that massive, they actually become meaningless because we all know the main character isn't going to let the earth explode.

give me a movie where the main character is just trying to save their own neighborhood, or get a single document back, or keep one person safe. small, concrete goals have actual tension. when you scale a plot up to global destruction, you lose all the human details that make us care in the first place. it just turns into loud noise.
